Few months ago, All Progressive Congress APC in Katsina lost one of its vibrant political strategists in person of Mustapha Radda. His reasons for decamping to People’s Democratic Party were a result of betrayal by Governor Aminu Bello Masari to the people of Katsina.
Mustapha stated that the government of Masari is full of deception and that all the promises promised by the Governor are yet to be fulfilled.
Among promises made was that of free education to all Katsina State students but as we speak the Governor has taken drastic measure that has prevented over 350,000 students from writing their secondary school final examination.
Mustapha Radda decamped to PDP with massive followers in Radda town of Charanchi Local Government.
Months later, the state treasurer for APC Katsina State chapter has decamped also to PDP in Kankia local government with over 4000 followers. To PDP this is a welcome development as they seem to be gaining grounds in Katsina State.
However, followers of APC are still criticizing their former state treasurer saying that they are not touched by his decamping and his people to PDP even though sources revealed that that there is massive division going on in katsina state APC.
Alh Nasiru Usman was received by the PDP party Chairman Salisu Majigiri & ace politician Alh Umar TATA in Kankia town
Treasurer of the Katsina State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasiru Usman, has dumped the party for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, alongside 4,000 others.
The defectors presented themselves to the Kankia Local Government chapter of the PDP on Saturday.
Usman, speaking on behalf of other defectors, said that they decided to switch because the APC has neglected them.
He told newsmen, “It is a fact that I led many others in the struggle that ensured victory for the APC in the 2015 general election.
“I campaigned vigorously against the then PDP candidate, Musa Nashuni, who is from my own local government – Kankia – and ensured he lost even his village, to Aminu Masari of APC.
“However, after the polls and the subsequent assumption of Masari as governor of Katsina State, majority of us were neglected by the APC.
“In my own case, some party stalwarts in Kankia went to the party’s state headquarters and ensured that I was suspended from its fold, for reasons best known to them.
“I have been on suspension for 14 months, with the state office refusing to recall me as directed by the Northwest Zonal Chapter of the party, following my successful petition against the illegal action.”
He added that his defection to his new political abode was not to contest for any position.
“We left the party because of neglect. The 4,000 people defecting with me are from the 10 political wards of Kankia,” he said.
Now the question is to ask is, Is Katsina State APC heading for self-destruction?
How many more members will leave the party given the existing tension of divisions happening in the party?
